Cascarilla - Eggshell Powder

Eggshell powder is a powder made from grinding white egg shells and has a multitude of uses. Eggshells are a natural source of calcium and are great to help clear your skin, fertilize your garden, add to your dogs diet and many more things.

Today we’ll talk about the spiritual and magical use of cascarilla, which roots can be traced back to the native traditions of West Africa and is still commonly used in Hoodoo tradition and Santeria for protection and cleansing.

Throughout the years the use of eggshell powder in magick and rituals became more and more popular in many different practices around the world. Eggs hold a very powerful spiritual meaning in countless cultures and traditions. An egg symbolizes life, the beginning of creation and the shell shields and protects the vulnerable against dangers. Because of this reason it will not be a surprise for you that eggshell powder is used in protective magic and to ward off negative energy in all forms. They say it creates a protective barrier between the natural and supernatural realms.

What do you need and how do you make it?

🥚 You need several empty eggshells

🥚 You need a mortar and pestle or a coffee grinder when you’re lazy (when you don’t have either one a simple spoon will do to crush the shells)

🥚 Wash the eggshells and remove the membrane (when washing it comes off quite easily)

🥚 Allow them to dry thoroughly (I usually let them dry for a day)

🥚 When you have a few dried eggshells you can crush them in your mortar (or coffee grinder or with a spoon). Some people like to chant in the meanwhile, pray or set their intentions already

🥚 Once your done, you can store it in a container
